YASMINE MEDDOUR

COMPOSER

She composes her first melodies at the age of eight on a second-hand piano gifted by her mother and then trains in singing and film music composition at the conservatory. Her childhood in Russia and Algeria is a major source of inspiration for her compositions.

The visual aspect of her music and her ability to elevate silent emotions resonate with cinematic works. In 2020, Yasmine composes and sings in Arabic for Mounia Meddour's first feature film PAPICHA, which won two awards at the César. In 2022, Yasmine Meddour composes the original music for Mounia Meddour's second feature film HOURIA. Enriched by the stories she has helped bring to light through her compositions, Yasmine feels the need to tell her own.

In 2023, she begins writing her first EP, LAHWA, inspired by her childhood memories in Kabylie. Her songs question time and its virtues; they are imbued with hope and a cathartic power that allows her to transcend the weight of her memories. Her universe is marked by the use of a piano, string instruments, synthesizers, and her voice, which is both pure and hypnotic.
